Description
Currently, the past meetings page on the wiki only goes back as far as September 2006. Ideally, all past events we know about should have a page on the wiki and be linked from there. However, when we migrated from OpenACS to MediaWiki this history was not transferred.
A mirror of the old web site was taken; HTML files containing a snapshot of each page can be found in /home/board/static-www.wplug.org/meetings/ on the server. (Because the old site and the wiki ran alongside each other for a time, some events are present on both.)
What we need is someone to take on the job of translating these pages into MediaWiki syntax and creating a new page on the wiki for each old meeting that doesn't currently have one. This could be done manually, but the better way is probably to script something. I can't vouch for their quality, but there are some number of options to choose from. There will surely be some manual cleanup needed.
The good news is that only a relatively small amount of content from each page needs to be extracted - a lot of it is boilerplate that can be ignored. A script could be designed to just take the necessary part, check the wiki to see if a page for that date already exists, and if not formats the text appropriately and creates a page for the meeting.
